Good Morning,
When I was young memorizing verses of the Bible was important for two reasons.
1. We take the word of God with us wherever we go.
2. We can share the word of God specifically pointing to a source so that others might investigate further.
Here is the 23rd Psalm which is one of the most popular memorized scriptures of the Bible for it's brevity and comforting message.
---
Psalm 23
Psa 23 KJV “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.”

We are not charismatic. We are not special and wise. We are full of evil and sin. We are also not just these corporal bodies. We are spirits within. We are a cultivated lot. We are the caretakers and we are the seed and the fruit.
We are in this world a sorting and sorted people. We are creation being made into what is good and what is no good. We are God's children and we are loved but in our selfishness we choose not to be. We have free will. We go accordingly to where our free will leads us, against or for our Father.

Here are the words of John The Baptist:
Matthew 3:9-10
Mat 3:9-10 KJV “And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
10. And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.”
