Good Morning.
There is nothing worse than being sick. Unless you consider death a state of being, being sick is the worst. There are many types of sickness. None of them are any good.
Sometimes we get sick and the only way out of the sickness is reflection. We reflect on the sickness as an After Action Review which is a fancy Army term for the following:
1. What did we do right?
2. What did we do wrong?
3. How can we do better next time?
The After Action Review or AAR is the antithesis of a pity party, ass chewing and lecture. When groups of soldiers are engaged in an AAR everyone on the team has equal authority and say. This is a great time for the private to express his observations within the framework of we. The same goes for the General and Command Sergeant Major. What did we do?
In sickness the After Action Review involves the we of self. There has to be a biblical We because there is no actual independent self. The self is just the ego that tells the hand where to put the food. The body otherwise is navigating and operating as a hybrid unit. In sickness there is a breakdown of communication, purpose and resilience.
When we are I'll we need to ask the questions:
1. What did we do right?
2. What did we do wrong?
3. How can we do better next time?
This is the healing talk that must be done. Is our spirit out of line? The spirit is the breath that has been given to us by God. It's an aspiration. There is a soul, too. How is the soul out of line? Is the soul captured by some metaphysical nonsense?
The healing talk is prayer. Because the we is I and Thou. On the one side is absolute opulence and perfection, God and on the other side is man. Man with hands takes to his knees and prays. It's the free will that makes I and Thou, W e. Given that there is free will there must be mistakes on the part of the benefited receiver of life and free will. There is no mistake by the Creator. Life is perfect in that it's is a healing program running it's course.
Taking time in illness to reflect is the pathway to healing. Finding one's purpose in life. Moving beyond mindless consumption, sensory pleasure and entertainment is the way to healing. This human life is not to be wasted. It's a time to work out the supreme relationship between the we.
